"For this figure, I looked to the postures of classical sculptures, where the line of the arms and shoulders contrasts - and balances - the line of the hips and legs, or 'contrapposto'. I wanted the gesture to involve her whole body - 360 degrees. So any way that the viewer turns the figure there is movement and life and expression."
